WHY: On June 1, Amtrak President Richard Anderson cut full dining-car service from its Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited Lines, replacing hot meals, served on real tableware with packaged snacks in a cardboard box.
Adding salt to the wound, seven chefs represented by the TWU, received furlough letters with only a nine-day notice.
Our members are on the frontlines. They know that passengers view freshly-prepared food served in the dining car as part of the unique experience riding a train on a long-distance route.
