Alaska Airlines Dispatchers Overwhelmingly Approve Labor Agreement
The Transport Workers Union of America, AFL-CIO has reached an agreement on a new four-year contract covering the 44 dispatchers employed at Alaska Airlines. Dispatchers overwhelmingly approved the contract last week, 41–3.
“Through mutual compromise and commitment, we are pleased to announce the ratification of an updated agreement that aligns TWU’s and Alaska’s interests, and provides competitive wages and benefits for our members,” said Jenny Schar, an Alaska dispatcher and proud TWU section chair. “This agreement recognizes the critical behind-the-scenes work of the dispatchers who play a major role in Alaska’s industry leading on-time performance, strong safety record, and continued profitability.”
The contract includes wage increases, quality of life improvements, and other provisions aimed at increasing productivity; it becomes amendable again in 2019.
“We’re pleased to see an airline recognizing the hard work of our members, and rewarding them with a fair contract that compensates them for everything they’ve done to keep this industry moving,” said Jose Galarza, TWU International Representative. “We look forward to continuing to partner with Alaska Airlines in helping our dedicated members provide the best service to the flying public.”
