Transport Workers Union Announces Tentative Agreement
between Flight Crew Training Instructors and Southwest Airlines
Last week, Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) Local 557 reached a tentative agreement with Southwest Airlines (SWA) over the contract covering flight crew training instructors. The agreement was reached after only four weeks of negotiating, as the previous bargaining agreement only became amendable on December 31 of last year. TWU is pleased with the progress and hopes it can be replicated at other units across Southwest.
“I would like to thank Local 557’s negotiations team and the Southwest Airlines representatives for the tireless work and long hours dedicated to reaching this agreement so quickly,” said Gary Shults, a TWU International Representative who helped negotiate the deal. “I’m confident the provisions we included will improve the quality of our members’ lives and offer the kind of long-term stability including annual structural pay increases and improvements in work rules.”
The tentative agreement will be presented to Local 557’s Executive Board for approval, and then sent to the membership for a final vote and ratification. Details will remain undisclosed until they are presented to local membership.
