Flight Attendants Union and Southwest Airlines Reach Tentative Labor Agreement
Transport Workers Union (TWU) of America, AFL-CIO Local 556 announced today that it has reached a tentative agreement in principle with Southwest Airlines.
TWU Local 556, which represents over 14,500 flight attendants, has been negotiating for over three years to reach this tentative successor collective bargaining agreement.
The internal bylaws of TWU Local 556 require that the tentative agreement first be reviewed by the union’s executive board. Details of the agreement in principle will not be released at this time, pending the approval of the executive board. Final approval of the contract can only come from the flight attendant membership through a ratification vote.
“Our members are the best flight attendants in the industry and provide legendary service to our customers. We deserve a contract that recognizes that dedication and professionalism. In the end, the members of TWU Local 556 have the ultimate vote on approving any new contract,” said Audrey Stone, president and lead negotiator of TWU Local 556.
