The TWU Opposes Decision to Eliminate Vaccine Prioritization for Transport Workers in California
Following the announcement that California is going to eliminate job-classification as a criterion for vaccine prioritization going forward, the following statement should be attributed to Transport Workers Union (TWU) President John Samuelsen:
“This decision abandons the frontline workers who have been most exposed during this crisis. Transport workers, like so many essential workers, are predominately people of color, and our families and communities have had to bear the brunt of this pandemic. We continued to show up to work when Governor Newsom told everyone else to stay home. We have had to quarantine from our families to keep our loved ones safe and far too many of us have died from the coronavirus. Denying these facts by de-prioritizing our access to a life-saving vaccine is wrong. For these reasons and many others, no other state has considered going down the path that the Governor has proposed. The people of California deserve a governor who is going to stand up for what is right and who will defend those most in need. We call on the Governor to fulfill his promise to those who never left the frontlines.”
