The TWU Opposes the Senate Republican Stimulus Proposal and Demands Immediate Relief for Workers
In response to the Senate Republican stimulus proposal, the following statement should be attributed to John Samuelsen, International President, Transport Workers Union of America (TWU):
“The Senate Republican stimulus proposal is a partisan exercise that provides no meaningful help to airline workers. It completely fails to address the crisis our airline sector is facing. The TWU is adamantly opposed to the airline piece of this terrible proposal.
“The American people need real action. Republicans and Democrats must come together to provide direct grants to airlines, conditioned on worker protections.
“We demand that this proposal focuses first and foremost on protecting workers’ paychecks, prohibiting the destruction of our contracts through bankruptcy, and ensuring that this money does not undermine collective bargaining.”
