TWU Members Ratify Improved Contract
14.25% Raise in Three-Year Pact Covers New Pension Costs, Plus Improved Standard of Living for Muni Operators and Fare Inspectors
SAN FRANCISCO – Members of Transports Workers Union (TWU) Local 250-A, the union representing San Francisco Muni operators and fare inspectors, have voted to ratify a new three-year contract with the San Francisco Metropolitan Transit Authority (SFMTA).
In voting that took place yesterday at Muni workplaces, 634 TWU Local 250-A Muni operators voted in favor of the agreement, with 485 voting against. Twenty-three Local 250-A transit fare inspectors voted in favor of the agreement, with none voting against.
“Our members have spoken,” said TWU Local 250-A President Eric Williams. “We worked hard at the bargaining table and our members maintained extraordinary solidarity throughout the negotiating process. We now have a three-year agreement in place and we look forward to providing excellent service to transit riders.”
The new agreement includes raises totaling 14.25 percent for TWU Local 250-A members, said Williams, which will more than cover increased pension contributions of 7.5 percent. A previous tentative agreement, he said, “was a pay cut, because the pension costs were more than the raises we would have received. That’s why it was overwhelmingly rejected.”
“Our members spoke up and we stuck together,” said Williams. “Together, we made progress.”
TWU Local 250-A represents 2,200 workers in the city and county of San Francisco, including Muni operators and fare inspectors, automotive service workers, museum conservators, city health inspectors, disease control investigators and curators.
