The Transport Workers Union of America stands in solidarity with the victims of the Orlando massacre and all of the families, loved ones, workers, and community members affected by this tragedy. We are reminded of the words of Martin Niemöller, who wrote:
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
In an era of segregation, our union was founded on inclusion and we are proud of this long history of commitment to civil and human rights. Today, as always TWU stands as one regardless of race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, or nationality. We join with the proud chorus of voices around the world wishing for a full recovery for those injured.
TWU also pledges its full support for the first responders and public servants seeking justice for this heinous act. We hope our members in Florida and around the country will consider donating blood or volunteering to help in whatever way possible.
