Victory in Congress for TWU and #DenyNAI Campaign: House Passes Amendment Protecting Fair Competition in the U.S. Airline Industry
The Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) applauds the House of Representatives for its bipartisan vote last night opposing efforts to lower standards in the global aviation sector.
“This vote clearly shows the widespread opposition to flag of convenience schemes,” said TWU International President Harry Lombardo.
“Norwegian Air International’s recent application to the US Department of Transportation for a Foreign Airline Operating Certificate is part of an ongoing attack on American workers and their livelihoods. We will continue to oppose these schemes, which inhibit fair competition in the global airline industry.
“On behalf of the TWU, I want to extend our thanks to Rep. Lynn Westmoreland and Rep. Peter DeFazio for their leadership and commitment to preserving the American aviation industry.”
The Transport Workers Union of America (TWU) represents 200,000 workers and retirees, primarily in commercial aviation, public transportation and passenger railroads, including 22,000 workers at American Airlines. The union is an affiliate of the AFL-CIO.
